What Makes Our Wild Oil of Oregano Better?

What sets our Wild Oil of Oregano apart? It takes 200 pounds of Origanum Vulgare herb, the most potent type of oregano, to yield 2 pounds of our Oil of Oregano. Our unique blend combines this potent oil in a 50%/50% ratio with medium-chain triglycerides (MCT), a coconut extract that maintains stability and aids in skin penetration without risk of degradation from light, heat, or time. Our Oil of Oregano is guaranteed to contain 75-80% Carvacrol and is known for its natural antiseptic properties. With a rich history dating back to ancient times, this oil was even used to sterilize surgical instruments until the 1950s. It boasts a range of benefits, including antiviral, antifungal, antimicrobial, and anti-parasitic properties, as well as mucolytic and anti-spasmodic effects. Embraced by Grecian physicians and often referred to as a Biblical medicine, some even believe it is the herb mentioned as hysops in the Bible.

Given the high potency of our Oil of Oregano, blended in a 50%/50% ratio with MCT, feel free to adjust its strength by diluting it with additional MCT or another oil for specific needs. In case MCT oil is not available at your nearby health food store, opt for a premium olive oil or another alternative, although we recommend mixing only small quantities with olive oil to avoid potential rancidity.

What is Oil of Oregano anyway?

There appears to be considerable confusion surrounding the various types of Oil of Oregano. We aim to clarify this matter. Oregano belongs to the Labiatae family, commonly known as mint, and shares close botanical ties with basil and marjoram. This information is sourced from a prominent horticultural publication, “The Hortus Third Edition,” issued by Cornell University. As per our Middle Eastern distributor, the horticultural species is generally Origanum. In broad terms, Compactum represents an oregano variety characterized by pale green oval leaves and a sweet, spicy taste, typically growing to around 30 cm in height.

This particular variety of oregano thrives along the western shores of the Aegean in Turkey. It is esteemed as a culinary herb, with its oil possessing similar qualities to marjoram, belonging to the same botanical family. The levels of carvacrol, the active component responsible for its antiseptic properties, can vary up to 60% depending on factors like harvest, location, and distillation techniques. On the other hand, plants under the Vulgare family exhibit dark green, petite leaves both at the top and along the stem, bearing sharper and more potent flowers. These plants typically flourish up to 3000 meters and are predominantly found on Turkey's southern coast. Some varieties boast carvacrol levels as high as 85%, representing superior quality, a distinction we proudly uphold.

How do I use it?

The application can cause a die-off reaction, so start slowly. We recommend a drop one to three times a day. Increase according to how you feel and react. You may notice a possible feeling of tiredness; this is caused by the die-off reaction of the germs that are killed by the oregano oil, followed by increased energy. It can be applied externally, everywhere but on the mucous membrane, as it will really burn. Rub a drop on the athlete’s foot and see what happens. A drop on your toothbrush will leave your mouth feeling clean and tingly. Great when rubbed on sore joints and muscles.
